A person both shows and receives love in different ways known as “love languages”. These love languages are all specific to how somebody might show or receive love from someone else such as; words of affirmation, acts of service, giving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. In Fifth Business, Robertson Davies the characters of Mrs. Ramsay and Mrs. Dempster shows their love to the protagonist, Dunny, in very different ways. In return, these “love languages” affect Dunny throughout his life as he perceives love from others in different ways. Mrs. Ramsey and Mrs. Dempster both demonstrate two different types of love, each received by Dunny and impacting him differently.
Diane Ackerman’s purpose for writing her essay “ Loves Vocabulary” is to inform us that love is inexplicable for the reason that there are many emotions to it and many emotions that fit into one single word. The connotations of the words such as “monotone” and “tangle” suggest her authoritative tone about how love can be make you feel many emotions at a time although we can not define the word love. Furthermore, there are so many feelings that occur, but we are not able to concentrate on one feeling. To begin with, In “loves vocabulary” Diane Ackeman uses figurative language to describe her ideas (on love) such as the bad side of love , and the power of love. The bad side of love is a paradox and also personification because the way Diane Ackeman uses the bad side of love is to prove a contradictory statement , an emotion of how love feels. Power of love ( a figurative language) she also uses is a metaphor because, she’s making love sound a certain way but it’s also not literal it’s just an way of explaining love in her meaning.

One would use such exaggeration to make someone feel extra special about one’s self. It renders that person vulnerable.
