Novels describe pictures and hold deep significance to life. More times than not the significance is generally overlooked. For instance, when reading ‘Opposite of Always’ while concentrating on literary archetypes, the reader will realize that love vs. hate requires you to make sacrifices for the one you love no matter the aftermath. The Lover is a situational archetype, as well as jealousy, they both are the reason for the theme in this novel.

In Opposite of Always, Justin A. Reynolds uses Love vs Hate as the main theme. The archetype that's tied to the theme is 'The Lover'. 'The Lover' is someone who'll put all their heart and soul into someone they perceive is truly special to them. We see 'The Lover' being applied when Jack shows his devotion to Kate.
There is one significant quotation in 'Opposite of Always' that's unique and could support my thesis statement and theme. This quotation shows us how Jack is deeply in love with Kate. On ( Reynolds, 101) Jack says he wants to kiss Kate, signifying that this foreshadows how in love he is with Kate and the fetish one might have with their lover. This would also mean that Jack could be addicted to Kate.
The customs that make this archetype of the lover back up my theme that it proves as you persist through the story, that the love between Jack and Kate don’t get weaker, it purely gets stronger each time they bond together. Each time Jack gets brought back in time, he relives the same affairs of him and Kate meeting and getting to know each other, having no skepticism that it won’t work out. Again, after about four times traveling back in time, he decides to stop loving Kate and rather love her from afar and pay for her medical treatment without her or anyone knowing. This shows and proves how important he loves and cares for Kate. This is also why the novel is a 'Love vs. Hate' story, rather than a 'Coming of Age' story because Jack loves Kate and enjoys every moment they have spent together while also dealing with the envy of his friends. Being faced with the last time travel, he decides to love Kate to the fullest and this shows the true meaning of 'The Lover' in 'Opposite of Always'.
