The Bond of Brotherhood “Lennie broke in. “But not us! An’ why? Because…because I got you to look after me, and you got me to look after you, and that’s why.”
In the book Of Mice and Men, two men are traveling around California to find work during the Great Depression. They have known each other for a very long time because Lennie’s Aunt Clara wanted George to look after him. George, the leader, is the person who chooses where they go and work. Lennie just simply follows along and does the work. Lennie has a mental disability that causes him to forget things quickly, not talk properly, and do things that a normal man wouldn’t do.
“Honesty and loyalty are key. If two people can be honest with each other about everything, that's probably the biggest key to loyalty” Taylor Lautner. This relates to the novel by John Steinbeck Of Mice and Men by showing that two men that are honest with each other will have loyalty in their friendship. George was loyal to Lennie even after all of the scandalous acts, Curley wanted to make sure his wife is safe and another significant example is Candy’s dog was Candy’s best friend. These three examples show that friends should be loyal to the extent that they do not inflict unnecessary suffering like Georges tolerance for Lennie, Curley's allegiance to his wife and Candy’s devotion for his dog.
Loyalty is a character trait that is highly valued in a true friendship. In Of Mice and Men Lennie Small and George Milton show loyalty by traveling together in the Great Depression when this was a time period when people would often travel alone. Jobs were hard to come by during the Great Depression, and harder for people with disabilities. As a person with a disability, it is necessary for Lennie to follow George’s guidance throughout the story in order to be successful and fit into society. He needs George’s help with everything he does and will believe anything George tells him.
In the novel of “Of Mice and Men” power and friendship is the very bases of the story. There are many people with power in the book but I specifically was interested in Curley’s power. Curley is the son of the Ranch’s boss and he is very spoiled. He does not listen to rules and usually gets away with any trouble he makes or gets into.
Throughout the novella, Steinbeck shows the reader differences between characters with the presence and the lack of friendship. The presence of friendship in George and Lennie’s relationship is key to why they stick together through everything. At first, the novella makes it seem that George is only friends with Lennie because of Lennie's disabilities. George promised Lennie’s Aunt that he would protect him when she is gone. George states that “‘When his Aunt Clara died, Lennie just come along with me out workin’.
Of Mice and Men was published in 1937 during a time of bi-racism between the caucasians and the african americans, and the apathetic Great Depression, which may have served as inspiration. In the novel two opposites attract, a gargantuan but mentally challenged man by the name of Lennie, and a small, nimble, and intelligent man named George. Suffering from a mental illness Lennie gets into trouble when he 's alone, but George always saves him, George knows Lennie doesn 't do anything, “out of meanness” as he says. Undoubtedly the reader assimilates that Lennie kills a young lady, said to have done so accidentally. Furthermore without any control George was forced to kill Lennie.
Erwin Laut Mr. Ess 12/26/2016 The act of being selfless is like a lightbulb, it’s either on or it’s off. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinback, Lennie and George are friends in a world of poverty and must rely on each other to survive. In this environment, with people using one another for profit and survival during the Great Depression, can truly selfless friendships still exist? Truly selfless friendships, when defined as being selfless towards your partner 100% of the time, do not exist because people always desire something from their partners, whether it be love or pleasure.
“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.” This quote from Elbert Hubbard is perfectly represented in Of Mice and Men in the many different friendships that take place. Throughout life, we all make friends and share many experiences with them. This is an important part of what makes us the people we are today. Friendship also affects the way that we act towards others.
In Of Mice and Men Steinbeck portrays the meaning of loyalty and loneliness by creating the feeling of love and loss between two friends, Lennie and George and an elderly man and his loyal senior dog. Loneliness and loyalty are shown through the relationships in
In ‘Of Mice and Men’, written by John Steinbeck, friendship is portrayed as one of the main themes in this novella and a very important part of people’s lives. Steinbeck also portrays friendship by highlighting the importance of friendship and showing how its presence and absence can trigger many positive and negative emotions. Its presence creates hope, feeling of companionship and a sense of responsibility. In spite of friendship’s presence creating positive feelings, its absence does the complete opposite. It generates a feeling of loneliness and isolation.
In John Steinbeck´s Of Mice and Men, the ideas of companionship and friendship are addressed greatly. George and Lennie are companions who have traveled alongside each other for a long time. They have to keep moving because Lennie causes trouble, and essentially strains their relationship. Although they have issues, they have a deep connection which benefits each of them. Steinbeck´s Of Mice and Men uses motifs and characterization to show that companionship is beneficial to individuals.
In John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men there are a lot of themes. The themes consist of friendship, loneliness, discrimination and dreams. All of these themes are important, and play immense role in the outcome at the end. The major theme is that friends stick together; unconditionally; this is demonstrated through Lennie and George's actions in Weed, in the bunk house, and in the aftermath of Curly's wife's death. One example of true friends sticking together is exemplified when George stays with Lennie after Lennie's actions in Weed.
A true friendship is something that everyone wants to have but not everyone can have it. in the novella Of Mice and Men the author shows the true meaning of friendship and these 2 best friends Lennie and George shows that they have Friendship and they love each other, care for each other and always have their backs i give some really great evidence and try to show you the relationship these guys had. Through the book George one of the two main characters he shows how he cares and takes care of his good friend the other important character Lennie, who was a mental disability but he still loves him but he does show some tough love. In the book George has been shown numerous times that he takes care of Lennie but the first quote It 's because Lennie was in trouble he was about to die,but his friend does something really beautiful “Couldn 't we just lock him up the poor bastards nuts{steinbeck 87}”In this quote he 's trying to convince the guys who were about to kill him by saying he didn 't know what he was doing,This quote means that he really cares for his friend and he 's trying to save him.
Education is something we have always known to perceive. From preschool to walking the stage at high school graduation. It’s just what was normal. We just go through the motions and we think we learn all of the subjects taught but do we really? Are we becoming truly educated?
