In the novel, The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton, an emotional story of friendship, hope, and loss is illustrated. All of these characteristics help to illustrate the priceless value of “loyalty” among friends, peers, and children. Actor David Mamet once said, “What I value most in my friendships is loyalty,” and this quote relates back to the story told. In the story, a young adolescent named Ponyboy Curtis has to deal with the ups and downs that come with being a teenager. He thought that he dealt with normal, everyday teenage things, until something happens and he and his friend, Johnny Cade, have to flee to avoid being caught for murder.
