In this report I will be talking about Lucy Letby and her trial over both the murders and the attempted murders of babies she was supposed to care for while she was employed at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Lucy Letby, aged 33, was found guilty of murdering seven babies and attempting to kill at least six others during her time at The Countess of Chester Hospital, Letby harmed and killed the babies in her care by injecting air into their blood and stomachs, she also overfed the babies with milk, physically assaulted them and poisoned them with insulin (Albawaba.com, 2023). In light of Letby’s case, politicians want to hold NHS managers and executives accountable, by implementing better regulations (The Lancet, 2023). But the big question is how will the government ensure these regulations are solely patient focused and not just punitive.Since 2015 there have been multiple inquiries into NHS maternity services, these inquiries share common themes of lack of leadership and teamwork, poor workplace culture, inadequate staffing and a failure to listen and act upon the concerns of staff.
