Luis Alfredo Garavito
Luis Alfredo Garavito was born on January 25, 1957 in Génova, Quindío, Colombia. He was a Serial Killer and rapist from Colombia convicted of killing 140 young boys. However, only convicted in 138 cases, body and skeletal discoveries have linked Garavito to over 300 murders. The media has even defined him as “the worlds worst serial killer,” because of his exceedingly high body count. After conviction Garavito was given Colombia’s worst sentence, which was a total of 30 years in prison. However because he was so cooperative in confessing his murders, he was offered many prison benefits along with a sentence reduction to 22 years.

The abuser fled when he noticed the homeless man, law enforcement showed up and obtained an ID of the abuser by the boy. Later that day taxi drivers spotted a man who matched the boys description. The taxi drivers reported what they found and Luis Garavtio was later caught. Garavito’s tried to hide his identity by giving the police a false identity. The police searched his telephone records and soon discovered who he truly was. Garavito had been on a list of suspects before on cases with missing children therefore they decided to search even further to link him to murder. One of Garavito’s relative came forth with one of Luis’s personal boxes which contained notes and passport photos of many of his victims. After trial he was convicted of 138 of them, with many of the remains trials still ongoing. The total number of years that these convictions totaled too was 1,853 years and 9 days. Because of the law in Colombia however he was only able to obtain 30 years in prison. His sentence was later decreased to 22 years because of his cooperation. Garavito is separated from the other criminals in his prison because the staff feared that Garavito’s life would be endangered if he was placed in general confinement. When in prison he only chooses to trust a few guards because he fears that others will try to poison him, therefore he only eats and drinks foods from certain people. Even in prison Garavito is on very good terms with many of the prison staff because of his relaxed
