Romeo and Juliet Analysis Essay Romantic love is known as a very common emotion to experience. However, the love so commonly found is usually just lust. Lust is somewhat similar to love, except for the fact that it only involves the other’s looks and not the person’s character. In Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare expresses the message that lust is confused with love and that it can lead to disastrous consequences through the actions and words of Juliet Capulet, Friar Lawrence, and Romeo Montague. Romeo displays with his actions and words on how he mistakes lust for love. Romeo is the sole son of Lord Montague. Friar Lawrence is a friar who wed Romeo and Juliet and is considered to be a honest and helpful man. When Romeo is talking with him about how he forgot about Rosaline, “Is Rosaline, that thou didst love so dear, / so soon forsaken? Young men’s love then lies / not truly in their ears, but in their eyes”(II, iii, 70-72). Friar Lawrence believes that Romeo only cared about Rosaline’s beauty and nothing else about her. However, Romeo was being depressed because Rosaline did not like him back, but he instantly has a change of mood after he started talking to Juliet showing how he only lusted after Rosaline. A bit after this scene, the Friar is talking to Romeo again as they were getting ready for Romeo’s marriage, “These violent delights have violent ends”(II, vi, 9). The supposed love that is happening now will feel great for the newly formed couple, but due to how fast it was rushed, it will likely lead to a horrible end. They will feel all great about the marriage right now, but later on it will be start falling apart because they never bothered to learn anything about each other than the obvious details. They do not care for each other outside of their looks. If they survived, they would have regretted the fact that they believed that their lust was love because they do not know whether or not they can spend the rest of their life with the other
