The suspect I will be talking about is Lydell Grant. Lydell Grant, a Houston man, was wrongfully convicted in 2012 for the murder of Aaron Scheerhoorn, who was fatally stabbed outside a Houston bar in 2010. Despite Grant's consistent claims of innocence and the lack of physical evidence linking him to the crime, six eyewitnesses identified him as the murderer, leading to his conviction and a life sentence. On December 10, 2010 Police were called to a club called Club Blur. Once police arrived at the club they found Aaron Scheerhoorn dead after being stabbed seven different times. Police arrested him and searched his car, which they found, according to Lydell Grant, a National Registry of Exonerations, n.d. It states, “Police searched Grant’s car and recovered a wig, ski mask, Halloween mask, and knife in the trunk. None of the items in the trunk was ever linked to or even associated with the murder.” But based on the eyewitness identification he was still charged with first degree murder. He was sentenced to life in prison. Before the trial Houston police crime lab tested scraping from the victim's fingernail which I found a mixture of two different DNA samples but one of the samples was a male.On December 6 2012 grant I filed a motion to seek DNA testing of evidence which they did but did not come back as a match to the DNA that was found on the victim. Grant was released on bond on November 26, 2019, but less than a month later they arrested a suspect named Carter who had confessed to killing Scheerhoorn following an altercation on the street. In conclusion, Grant had served nine years in prison for a crime he did not commit but because of six eyewitnesses saying he did, he could not get
