According to the MCYS (2015), the Child and Family and Services Act has been regularly revised and updated since its proclamation in 1985, which illustrates that the policy continues to find solutions to be able to dismantle any problems that may exist in the act. To show that the act is trying, they not only include service providers in helping to update the act, they also include the most vulnerable young people in Ontario, as well as Aboriginal people (MCYS, 2015). The report on the 2015 review of the act outlines evidence of unintended consequences. It has also been suggested that the Act needs to update on areas regarding to a child’s religious faith since the Act refers to a child as Protestant (MCYS, 2015). That is why the Act needs to be updated in order to reflect Ontario’s various religious faiths (MCYS, 2015). Aboriginal youth participants, for example, have indicated that the act does not implement enough of community cohesiveness (MCYS, 2015). This can be improved by allowing participants to voice their concerns and to be part of the reformation process, thereby empowering them. The policy can also be improved by mandating both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal agencies to collaborate and learn from each other at an on-going basis. This can be done by creating an official committee with both Aboriginals and non-Aboriginal members to ensure that different viewpoints are heard and incorporated with improving this policy.
