MGM Resorts Conservation and Environmental Policy.
The main focus of MGM Resorts in terms of environmental concerns is in water conservation efforts in their Las Vegas Strip properties, specifically at the Bellagio, Circus Circus, CityCenter, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, the Mirage, MGM Grand, Monte Carlo, and the New York-New York. Las Vegas being in the arid South-west means that heavy water use is both financially costly and unpopular in the eyes of the public, which plays heavily into the decision to develop efficient conservation methods. The various water features present on the casinos and resorts of the Strip employ water recycling measures, reclaiming shallow salty ground water that sits below the ground. The replacement of the grass lawns of the resorts and casinos with water-smart landscaping projects as suggested by the Water Conservation Coalition (WCC). As Southern Nevada has recently experienced a multi-year drought the conservation efforts have accomplished much for both MGM and the city of Las Vegas. The point has been made by Las Vegas activists and Officials that a true commitment to sustainability would be to shut down the various water fixtures of the casinos and drain the pools, MGM contends that the water wastage of its fifteen Strip properties in less than the estimated usage of its 52,000 employees though the actual figures have not been disclosed. It was reported in July of 2015 that the water conservation efforts of MGM had managed to reduce their consumption of water by around 2 Billion gallons since 2008, the effort earning them commendations from the WCC earlier this
