I am excited about applying to MSUCOM as I feel that it is the right medical school for me. As a student at MSUCOM, I am very excited about participating in the Community Integrated Medicine (CIM) program. As a first-generation American, I have seen members on both sides of my family struggle to get proper healthcare because of their immigrant status. As a physician, I want to provide medical care for medically underserved areas and help individuals and families in ways that my own family members need. This program will give me the opportunity to start doing so by taking part in providing such care as well as other needed aid to underserved communities. Both opportunities will teach me how I can best serve medically underserved areas as a physician, while allowing me to begin providing such services. When I arrive as a student at MSUCOM, I am most excited about visiting and studying at the MSU Learning and Assessment Center (LAC). I have always learned best when given the opportunity to apply my knowledge. Due to the seriousness of the medical field, it is not acceptable to simply “try” different techniques on patients without first refining them, and the LAC will allow me to practice different skills without putting patients at risk. By studying at the LAC, I will be able to refine my abilities so that when I become a physician and begin to see my own patients, I will already have strategies developed for addressing the wide variety of situations that I may find myself in.
