I chose to create posters and storyboards for a modern day version of Macbeth which focuses on Act 5 scenes 6-8 because when reading this conclusion of Macbeth I envisioned it as having a similar story and tone as a modern epic film.
This project was completed in the format of storyboards rather than creating the actual film due to the vast amount of time I would need to film a project that would fit the tone I was looking for in the reduction. I read the last scenes of Macbeth as taking the story to a more grandiose scale that emphasized the importance of the occurrences in the play, achieving this tone while portraying my idea in an appropriate light is something I would seek to do if I filmed the project. This theme, which I feel is the main one that the novel addresses, is ultimately bought into full circle in this scene, which is why I felt the need to portray the final scene. The reason behind the inclusion of scenes 6 and 7 in the project is the reasoning behind them being included in the play, to set up the stage for the final battle between Macbeth and Macduff. I felt that the final scene does not just provide an ending to the play but also an expanding on its themes to exemplify this theme of the never escapable attributes of power. Macduff’s eventual decapitation and presentation of Macbeth’s head (V.VIII.65-88) results in another man getting power, but with the fall of Macbeth the play ends on a sour note as we know that another person is getting the power that lead to Macbeth's downfall. This complex ending is the main reason behind my choice of these scenes, more complexity is found here than anywhere else in the play. Macbeth, however, should not be something produced in a reduced form, as with any other literary work, just cutting out a certain scene or set piece does not compare to the work in its
