“Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires”. (Act 1 scene 4) This quote means when Macbeth decided whether or not to kill the king so he can become king himself. In this essay I will be talking about how I believe Macbeth is a tragedy of character, how Macbeth launches an element of fantasy from the witches and how the witches played a giant role. A tragedy of character is when a character in literature is heading for suffering or failure because of themselves. I believe this is what exactly happened to Macbeth. Macbeth does suffer a loss of his wife in act 5 scene 5 when Macbeth hears a scream so he sends Seyton to see what the scream was coming from. When Seyton comes back he told Macbeth “The queen, my lord, is dead”. In the play it didn’t state how she died so we are to technically assume that she probably committed suicide or just died since Shakespeare didn’t make it clear enough in the play. In act 1 scene 3 Macbeth and Banquo ran into and they tell Macbeth that he will become king one of these days which lead to ambition to Macbeth. Macbeth also let his wife to persuade him to kill Duncan. If the witches never told Macbeth, Macbeth wouldn’t have thought about killing Duncan so he can become king. “Had I but died an hour before this chance, I had lived a blessed time; for from this instant there’s nothing serious in mortality. All is but toys. Renown and grace is dead. The wine of life is draen, and the mere lees is left this vault to brag of (act2, scene3)”. After killing the king, Macbeth he felt guilty and felt remorse for doing so because Macbeth isn’t an evil man. The witched had told Macbeth that throne would be inherited to Banquo so Macbeth didn’t like that so he ordered Banquo and Fleance to be killed to secure his
