In the play “ Macbeth “ written by Shakespeare, we can see deception being shown throughout the play. The type of deception seen is based on how ambition can destroy a person and how the desire for power can make a person change drastically. Shakespeare portrays how the character's desire can lead to their downfall. With the theme of deception placed in the play, it can extend the show of the consequences of haste action and the loss of moral clean conscience.

In Act 1.5 we can see Lady Macbeth advises Macbeth to put a false face of innocence so King Duncan would never suspect Macbeth about their true goal, to kill him. Lady Macbeth said Innocent flower, But be the serpent under” in a way of deception and manipulation. This type of deception is what set off Macbeth to lose his clean conscience and destroys Macbeth mentally, throughout the play. Although this isn't the first sign of deception in the play, earlier in the play we have a description of the witches.

“ False face must hide what the false heart doth know “. Macbeth is now aware that he is going to need to hide his true intentions, to achieve his goal. Macbeth must “ hide” to become king. The deception of Macbeth to hide his ambition to make his prophecy true. The last sign of deception, within Macbeth, is following the death of Banquo.

The last sign of deception within Macbeth is when acting welcoming and friendly toward Banquo. Although, he was planning Banquo's murder with the help of assassins. “ To be thus is nothing, But to be safe thus” This shows Macbeth's willingness to betray his friend for personal gain/ needs.
