In the book Macbeth by William Shakespeare Macbeth fatal flaw was really his ambition because of his desire to be king so he goes as far as to do something terrible to another person to be king An example of this is in act 2 scene 2 (Shakespeare #4 ) a quote from the text that shows my claim is (i have done the deed. Disdt thou not hear a noise ) This textual evidence tells us that Macbeth has murdered King Duncan. His own close friend of his to be king, this shows that his ambition will drive him as far to kill someone close to him.
Word Tracing Act 1 1. a. Quotation and Speaker: CAPTAIN: “Like valor’s minion, carved out his passage / Till he faced the slave; / Which ne’er shook hands, nor bade farewell to him, / Till he unseamed him from the nave to th’ chops, / And fixed his head upon our battlements. “ (1.2.21-25) b. Paraphrase: Like a servant of bravery, he fought through a road of enemies until he finally got to the evil enemy Macdonwald. Whom he never shook his hands since Macbeth was too busy already ripping him from the stomach to the jaw.
Macbeth's tragic downfall is caused by his gullibility with regards to the witches because he believes their prophecies and puts his faith in them. When Macbeth first hears the prophecies, he is doubtful but when the first part of the prophecy comes true, he trusts the witches. When this part-being named the Thane of Cawdor-occurs, Macbeth states,"Glamis, and Thane of Cawdor: The
Macbeth would not have killed King Duncan without Lady Macbeth. A quote to support this is “I am settled, and bend up/ each corporal agent to this terrible feat”(I.vii. 79-80). This quote supports the thesis statement because it shows that after Lady Macbeth explains her plan to Macbeth, and Macbeth can tell it won’t fail Macbeth will go on with Lady Macbeth's plan. That quote also tells the reader Lady Macbeth can be very persuasive.
The Three Witches' prophecy caused Macbeth’s initial corruption, planting the thought of murder into Macbeth’s heart. They told Macbeth that he would be Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and King of Scotland (I.iii.49-50). This immediately gave Macbeth ambition to get what he wants,
In the tragedy Macbeth the tragic hero falls on the role of Macbeth himself. He is observed as an honest man by his peers even after his occupation of killing contradicts his image in the community. Macbeth was a man of integrity up to the point when the three witches prophesies started to become true. As time elapsed evil consumed him and like cancer, spread throughout his body. Macbeth’s consumption of evil is analyzed through Fred Alford’s theory of where there is evil it will spread.
People are not always granted their wishes, for the most part people work for what they want and the outcome may not always come as desired. In William Shakespeare's play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth starts off malicious and transitions in a suicidal state of mind. Although Lady Macbeth was a women she would manipulate her husband and was Macbeth's main influence which wasn't common in the past. Initially, in the first act Lady Macbeth starts off as an ambitious wife determined to help fulfill the prophecy of her husband becoming King of Scotland.
The second witch tells Macbeth that he will soon become the Thane of Cawdor. At the beginning of the play, Ross told Macbeth that he will be the next Thane of Cawdor since the previous Thane tried to go against King Duncan by joining forces with an enemy. After hearing the news Ross told him, Macbeth knew the witches were onto something. The third witch tells Macbeth he will become the King of Scotland in the future. “All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be King hereafter!”
Megan Weetman Professor Rommesser Composition 1 October 6th, 2016 Macbeth In the beginning, Macbeth withholds a strong sense of judgement and moral standard for himself and his behavior. He is ripe to the slightest suggestions to murder his liege and lord. The three witches plant the seeds and Lady Macbeth waters them, however, Macbeth takes it upon himself to harvest the ugliness.
Human beings do not have a total control over their thoughts and emotions. The human mind can easily be influenced by changes in terms of social status, greediness, and ambition. The play, Macbeth by William Shakespeare and the novel The Talented Mr. Ripley by Patricia Highsmith are types of artworks where these changes or events can unleash the worst characteristics of people, and a battle for control ensues, between the good side and the dark forces within. To begin with, firstly, at the beginning of the play, Macbeth appears as a brave soldier and a warrior hero, whose fame on the battlefield led him to get a great honor from the king.
Hail to thee thane of Glamis! … thane of Cawdor… thou shalt be king hereafter (Witches, Act I, sc III, 50-52)¨. These witches are telling him that he will be thane of Glamis, thane of Cawdor and king of Scotland. In the beginning of the play Macbeth is already thane of Glamis because it is the name of the area he rules over. Soon after he was told these prophecies King Duncan named him thane of Cawdor.
In the first scene, Macbeth was shown as a leader and a warrior. Right after, he met the weird/crazy witches. These witches then persuaded Macbeth into believing that he will become the Thane of Cawdor and Glamis. Based on an analysis of the play, both Macbeth and the witches are responsible for Macbeth’s demise in William Shakespeare’s, Macbeth.
The prophecies also affect other characters into persuading him into committing acts that he normally would not do if it weren’t for the false hope that the witches had given him. In Act one the King hears of Macbeth 's noble deed in battle and awards him by making him the Thane of Cawdor. In the very next scene Macbeth and Banquo are visited by the witches who great Macbeth with “All hail, Macbeth! Hail to the Thane of Cawdor!”
In this scene, there are 3 witches. These witches begin to discuss their plans. The first witch asks when they will meet and the next one states that when the commotion and fighting is over and done with and another says that this will be before the sun sets. They then begin to discuss where they will meet and they state that they will meet where Macbeth is. They then leave.
Macbeth is a doer, his deeds and his reaction to them define where he is as a character, because of his lukewarm morals and ability to be influenced by others, he - through the course of the play - becomes desensitized and detached to reality. Macbeth’s morals are characteristically unimpressive. At the beginning of the tragedy, he knows right from wrong and understands that his actions should be thought through logically. However, Macbeth does not follow this logical thinking and relies on emotions for his true decision making.
