They stated that Macbeth would be titled Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and King of Scotland. They also claimed that Banquo would not be King, but his sons would be. Both Macbeth and Banquo were confused and in disbelief. They wanted to hear more, but the witches vanished and they tried to convince themselves not to listen to such an absurd prediction. Soon after, though, the messengers from King Duncan came along and declared Macbeth Thane of Cawdor, proving the witches predictions correct. Questions began to circle around his head as he wrote a letter to his wife, Lady Macbeth. When Lady Macbeth got the letter, she believed that if the witches were correct about these successes, her husband should do everything he could to make himself the King of Scotland as well.
