Niccolo Machiavelli was a very famous man in the 1400’s and 1500’s, for many reasons. Not only was he part of a very wealthy family, but he had many accomplishments of his own throughout his life. Above anything, Machiavelli is most well-known for writing The Prince. Many of the things Machiavelli accomplished had a long lasting effect on the world and people’s ideas about power, government, and trust. Much like Florentine Histories, The Prince focused on the Medici family. However, this story did not focus on Lorenzo de’ Medici’s death. Instead, it focused on his personal views of politics and what he had believed to be true in “truly human, rather than Christian, ways.” This was very different from the traditional way of writing during this period, which focused on “history by God” and morals. Machiavelli wrote The Prince in order to describe rules and politics, while many believed that he did it in an attempt to recreate the order of politics at this time. This, of course, caused much indifference, and led to the public taking sides and stands on Machiavelli’s views on politics. Because many people began to take different views on politics than what had been taught before, Machiavelli gained many people following his beliefs. Many people also took to a newer way of writing, due to the ideas that came out with The Prince. These styles however, were not traditional, and thus, not widely accepted. This caused for controversies with not only what was known about politics, but also with what had always been known, and considered correct, about literature
