The Prince Machiavelli is the author of the book “The Prince”, which consists of inspiration from the Roman Empire in order to change Italy for the better. Machiavelli is inspired by how unified the Roman Empire was and realized that’s how it became so powerful. As a result Machiavelli wrote a book about what type of leader it would take to build a new and improved unified Italy. When Machiavelli wrote “The Prince” it was almost intended to recollect a hand book for rulers; however, his style of teaching was different than that of an “ethical” man. If Machiavelli’s quote is taken out of proportion; then, everyone would be terrified of the leader. Machiavelli is trying to say that a leader is more likely to get backstabbed if he or she is loved rather than feared. This quote can apply to more than just leadership; it can also apply to personal relationships with individuals or with a business. The concept of being feared rather than loved in order to be safe can have its benefits as long as it is not taken too far. An example would be someone dating another individual. The man in the relationship has to establish some sort of fear which develops power over the relationship. The man has to make it so that the girl is afraid of breaking up with him, not because he is abusive or threatening.
