The reason that I want to attend Machik Weekend is because when I grow older, I aspire to work for the Tibetans inside Tibet, and to give back to the community that has helped me developed my own identity as a Tibetan. Although I am far away from my country, distance shouldn’t be a barrier because there is so much that can be done. Machik’s cause immediately struck an inner chord in my heart and reminded me of the detailed stories that my late Grandpa and Grandma had told me from their experiences in Tibet. I wish to be apart of this amazing organization that helps so many people in my homeland. I believe that going to Machik Weekend will educate me on what to do to help the situation in Tibet, and give me ideas on how I can help my community back in Minnesota to grow stronger and more united. …show more content…

Now those children refer to me as their “Acha”. They give me the inspiration to try to improve their education, and because of this, I have the aspiration to help other children as well, not just the ones in my Tibetan community. I have seen Machik is dedicated to improving education for Tibetan youth inside Tibet, and I was immediately attracted to that aspect of their work.
I, myself, strongly value education as one of the most important things in this world. Without, education, your future is uncertain, and that goes for everyone, everywhere. By going to Machik Weekend, I will be able to learn how to expand the opportunities of the Tibetans in Tibet and my community, and how to improve the lives of the younger members of my
