The poet W.H. Auden once said, “Machines are beneficial to the degree that they eliminate the need for labor, harmful to the degree that they eliminate the need for skill”. Auden speaks of labor, machines, human skill and the future of mankind. Being a well respected poet and the chancellor of the Academy of American Poets, Auden brings up several good points; is expertise or the need for less labor more important? And if the need for less labor wins, then what is the path for the future of the human race? Machines are constantly changing how everything is looked at and done by people as man becomes more and more reliant on technology. Many travel daily to work or school using a machine, a car, bus, or even a train, but how many of those people would be in trouble if their car was to stop working. Would they have the knowledge to fix there own car or even to still be able to get to their destination with their own two feet. The movie WALL-E shows human life in the future where people have become so dependent that the no longer can walk on there own, instead they rely on floating chairs. No person should be so dependent that they can no longer do a simple task such as walk, clean up after themselves, and take care of there own body. As of now with cell phones growing in popularity many are becoming more absorbed and reliant unequipped with the expertise needed to do task and complete challenges that face
