The clouds part on a location 2.4 kilometers high in Peru, surrounded by the Urubamba River and wrapped in sacred mountains. What is this site? Local shamans believe this site was the entry to the spirit world, but “there are no written clues or carvings in Machu Picchu proving that this was the only purpose of the site.” Discovered by a Yale professor on July 24, 1911. Described by other archaeologists in numerous ways. There are mysteries that have still not been answered. This is the legacy of Machu Picchu. Was the professor from Yale University, Hiram Bingham, really the first person to ever see Machu Picchu? He might be a hoax. In 1900, a local farmer named Agustin Lizarraga, lived near the area of Machu Picchu. He visited the ruins but didn’t tell anyone for 10 years. He later told Hiram Bingham about it and Hiram went to go find it. After getting the clue from Agustin, Hiram went and followed a small Indian boy and he stumbled upon Machu Picchu. A few years later Hiram Bingham went back and discovered male and female bones from all races. In fact Machu Picchu has more than two hundred buildings, fountains, and altars. All are made from grey granite. There are no fortified walls. There is a stone that was used to look at stars. Local shamans believe this stone opened the spirit world. There are also dramatic and towering citadel of stone put together without mortar. There were places and temples dwellings and storehouses. Other buildings are the temple of the moon, temple of the sun and the room of the three windows. The scenery around Machu Picchu is amazing also. There is the Urubamba River and sacred mountains surrounds Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu is an amazing place. With all the towers and temples it is so pretty. (paragraph on it
