All three of these quotes connect to the night Melinda was raped. On page 72 when she says "that night" she 's referring to the night of the party her and her old friends went to. A party she was not really supposed to be at. The night that she was raped in the woods. The night she called the cops and got slapped for it.

As a young reporter for the Coyotes she sat down with the GM at the time, Don Maloney, for a 1-on-1 interview.
As I read the syllabus these quotes really struck me. While reading Audre Lorde’s quote the first thought that came to mind was that my wellbeing is dependent on the wellbeing of those around me. As I reflect a little longer, I think that this quote is saying we are all connected in some form or fashion. What happens to you affects me and what happens to me affects you, whether we are aware of it happening or not. As women we feel deeply and we are all part of a bigger plan to give life to mankind; therefore it is reasonable to assume that we are all interlocked with each other.
For example, Estella was born in a poor area so she always wanted to help others.(Berger) This quote shows how she was influenced by the area’s poverty rate. Also, In palm beach county Pyfrom was tired of seeing people around he without cars or proper houses.(Johnson) When Pyfrom was a counselor she saw many of her students having no technology after school.(About the Ceo) Another example is, When she realized that the whole world was using technology, but some people couldn’t afford it she knew she had to do something.(Berger)
A prime example can be found at the start of the book when he gives the reader a synopsis of his athletic career in middle school. “I wasn’t exactly considered an asset. Thanks to my occasional walking during races I finished so far behind my score wasn’t even counted in the team standings... there was one thing that remind that validated my worth as an athlete. Luckily, 16 ounces of the magic potion could be purchased for $1.29...
Lessons Learned by Protagonist- Ruthie learns that a life of transience can be either beneficial or detrimental. At this point in the story Miss Lottie is now reduced to a broken old women with nothing but an impoverished life and a disabled son. It may seem as though her dreams and perseverance were wasted but they were not. The message of
Lantin, in this story he has complicated emotional changes. In the beginning of the story, he truly loved his wife, we can see in the context that after his wife’s death, “Monsieur Lantin’s despair was so great that his hair became white in one month”, “time did not assuage his grief”. However, life is tough, he couldn’t bear it, finally “one evening, finding himself without a cent in his pocket”, therefore, “immediately the thought occurred to him of disposing of his wife’s paste jewels”. After he knew his wife had affairs, even though he was ashamed he sold all the jewels and ignored the clerks’ sneer. I think, this is the power of money, it can totally change a person as time goes on.
For instance the quote from alice in wonderland gives a better example

I chose this quote because it sums Iris Murdoch into one little sentence. I used this quote mainly because it is how amazing one sentence can say so much but also say so little about a person. This would be a great sentence for any normal writer, bur Murdoch’s life was so eventful that it could never be simply summed up in a sorry sentence like that. When I read this line from Iris Murdoch’s literary work the first thing I thought was, wow this sounds like another author I previously read and did a Quote and Commentary. I cannot put a finger on this other writers name, I can recall that he talked about religion like it was just a master idea to control people.
For instance, in chapter eight of To Kill A Mockingbird Ms. Maudie’s house catches fire. She is faced with the struggle of losing everything, but decides that is okay and to not be selfish. Also, Ms. Maudie states, “Only thing I worried about last night was
Ursula Le Guin defines Omelas as a utopia where the citizens’ lives are never wretched. Le Guin captures her readers’ attention by describing the city’s beauty with the colorful scenery, events featuring games and horse riding, and the everlasting happiness. She does a great job of leading her readers into thinking this could be the perfect society, but leaves us with the question of satisfaction. According to Le Guin, “happiness is based on a just discrimination of what is necessary, what is neither necessary nor destructive, and what is destructive” (p. 2). This quote means that there must be a balance for the society to succeed.
In the later part of the story, Mathilde Loisel and her husband went from being in the lower middle class to the lower class. According to Maupassant (1884), “They dismissed their servant; they changed their lodgings; they rented a garret under a roof” (p.5). This caused them to live a lower class life and endure the hardships of being poor. However, Mathilde has a friend who is rich.
