Early Life and Education
Magic Johnson is born on 14 August 1959 in Lansing, Michigan. The birth sign is Leo; belongs to African-American ethnicity.His father worked as a garbage collector apart from janitorial work. Magic used to help his father on the garbage route.

His father played high school basketball in Mississippi. Johnson was also interested in playing basketball as a youngster. Johnson has six siblings altogether.

He was first called 'Magic' when he played for Everett High School with a triple-double of 36 points, 18 rebounds, and 16 assists.

He was named the 'Most Outstanding Player' of the Final Tour. He was drafted in the NBA in 1979 with an average of 17.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game.

He went on with his amazing performance since he was drafted in 1979 by the Los Angeles Lakers. He was the only rookie winning the NBA Finals MVP award.

He signed a 25-year contract worth $25 million with the Lakers in 1981. It was the highest-paying contract in sports until the time. During 1982-83, he completed the season with 16.8 points, 10.5 assists, and 8.6 rebounds in a game.

He's achieved a lot in his professional career including three NBA MVP Awards, 9 NBA Finals, 12 All-star games and 10 nominations in All-NBA First and Second Team. He played in the 1992 United States men's Olympic basketball team winning a gold.

He was also praised as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History in 1996. He became a two-time inductee into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 and 2010.

He completed his fifth and final NBA championship of his professional career with 21.1 points, 550 shooting, 13.0 assists, and 5.7 rebounds in a game. He made the public announcement of his retirement in a press conference held on 7 November
