To attain and maintain a positive relationship with other countries, it is important to be familiar with their culture. Culture is defined as, the characteristics and the knowledge of a particular group of people, encompassing language, social habits, music, religion, and arts (Culture of Germany, n.d.). Culture is intertwined in all communities in every country, and the ability to bridge the gap between cultures will be better facilitate any endeavor. The five characteristics of culture should be utilized to better allow the United States and other occupying countries to understand their culture, construct a positive relationship, and maintain the relationships that are formed. Second, Customs are significant because they show the proper information needed and the respectful way to interact with people from other countries. Third, Traditions are important because they teach people how to celebrate certain holidays and festivals, and what to expect when dealing or visiting other countries. Fourth, Beliefs are another characteristic because it lets you know what is considered important and what the belief is important, which is a great way to uphold a strong relationship. Arguably the most important characteristics while dealing with another country is the government. It begins on a Saturday in September and last about 16 to 18 days ending on the first Sunday in October. The tradition started in 1810 at the wedding of crown prince Ludwig of Bavaria to the princess of Therese von Sachsen- Hildburghausen. Oktoberfest is now one of the largest festivals in the world, attracting over 7 million people from all over the world to enjoy German beers and Authentic German food (Looper, 2011). Another festival in Germany is the wine festivals, which is organized in different regions of Germany.
Germany was the homeland to the protestant reformation, but in the politically fragmented holy roman empire of the sixteenth century. As of today, 34 percent belongs to Protestant church, 34 percent belong to Roman Catholic Church and 3.7 percent belong to Muslim. A lot of people of the German population have no religious affiliation (the world Factbook, 2004).
Government is defiantly one of the most important characteristic of a culture. Germany is a preliminary democracy that is run by a president that is elected by the people. Anyone who is eighteen or older can cast a vote for the candidates or
