In the non fiction text, Mcjobs, by Eric Schlosser, it talks about the “dangers of fast food.” Eric Schlosser states that back in the 1900s there was not a single fast food restaurant in Martinsburg, but still, people somehow managed to eat and survive. Fast food restaurants serve very cheap food along with it being made very fast, but the food is processed and frozen, which can lead to a lot of diseases and disorders. Fast food restaurants might be very cheap and fast, but it is not healthy at all and it can be replaced with a lot of smaller healthier snacks.

In David Zinczenko’s article, he explains why children who eat most of their meals at fast food restaurants are not to blame for being obese or unhealthy. This is because places like McDonalds don’t offer healthy options. However, when you bring a child to a fast food place they generally won’t go for a salad, instead they’ll get a burger with some fries and a soda. So even if these places did offer healthier options, which now most do or they at least offer the nutritional information, children generally would not pick those over the less healthy options. In a study conducted on the diet of children who go to schools with fast food restaurants located within a half mile they found students, “consumed fewer servings of fruits and vegetables, consumed more servings of soda, and were more likely to be overweight than were youths whose schools were not near fast-food restaurants” (Davis). When resturants move closer to schools they are increasing the obesity rates in America even more than they already are. Fast food restaurants need to understand the importance of a healthy diet in adolescent years. Some children today are over worked in school with after school practices, clubs, work and and on top of it all, homework.
