Since this was a timed essay I made a lot of mistakes, and it was also very difficult to revise
H.H Holmes confessed, “I was born with the devil in me. I could not help the fact that I was a murderer, no more than the poet can help the inspiration to sing”. During this time Holmes was growing to be America’s first recorded serial killer and taking place in the tail end of the Industrial Revolution, technology and architecture improved to new levels. Much like Holmes, life in the city was chaotic. Chicago at the time was moving to a more industrialized society.
The task at hand is to alter an English synthesis essay with a prompt dealing with coming of age from the female perspective into a history research paper dealing with coming of age through different centuries and how the social, economic, and political expectations in that time period impacted the process of coming of age. In order to change the genre and discipline to fit the requirements of a research paper about history it will be essential to change the format from MLA to Chicago. The history paper will be an analysis rather than a critical thinking assignment and will need background information from reliable sources that provide sufficient proof. In order to write a successful synthesis essay, you must gather research on your chosen topic, discover meaningful connections throughout your research, and develop a unique
Primary Source Analysis This paper will contain an analysis on two documents that I have chosen on Women’s Rights. The two documents are: Abigail and John Adams Converse on Women’s Rights, 1776 and the National Organization for Women (N.O.W.) Statement of Purpose, 1966. Both were created hundreds of years apart, but they will give an understanding of how long of a fight it was for women to obtain a sense of equality.
Khadiza Begum Senior Fitzgerald High School As a student, it is a great honor to just be nominated as a candidate for the National Honor Society. It insists that I have been industrious throughout the past three years of high school– which I take great pride in. I have always shown my best even through my struggles.
Essay of Intent I deserve to be part of the National Junior Honor Society for many reasons. To begin with I deserve to be in National Junior Honor Society because of my skills as a leader. Additionally, I have a very strong character, and able to work well in a team. Finally, I am willing to give back to the people in need and honoring my country. To wrap it all up, I deserve to be in National Junior Honor Society because of my strong character, my leadership skills, my strength in working in a team, my willingness to help people in need, and for honoring our country.
Today I am deeply humbled to be recognized as a potential member of the National Honor Society. To me this means I have exemplified everything you look for in a student who goes above and beyond, not just in academics but in athletics, the community and at home as well. I have not taken this selection for granted, as I believe would be a great asset to the National Honor Society. I am hardworking, honest, reliable and quite charismatic too. I hold all the qualities required by the distinguished NHS like leadership, service, character and scholarship.
Nora Loeung Mr. Monroe English 1301 September 28, 2015 Literary Analysis Research Paper Is there a major distinction between how the working class and upper class view each other? Through Disney’s eyes, there is. Disney highlights these views with their rendition of the classic fairytale, Beauty and the Beast. Beauty and the Beast is a story of how a beautiful young girl breaks a curse cast upon a prince and his servants by teaching the prince about kindness and compassion. Beyond teaching a moral lesson to children, “the curse also serves as a mechanism for the reinforcement of class structure and thereby the struggle of laborers in the world they inhabit: the base and the superstructure.”
I am ready to board the ship, and set sail – pointing towards a bright future of being an ECU pirate. Being admitted into the Honors College at ECU would be the catalyst to a successful future. As a high school senior, I am considering many universities and believe that being apart of the ECU community would allow me to reach my full potential. Growing up I have always set high standards for myself academically and extracurricularly. I participate in many clubs at my school including BETA club and National Honor Society.
In the outline I start by developing a hook following up with an introduction. Then I establish a thesis statement, after that I begin with the first body paragraph topic sentence. Once I write the topic sentence of the first paragraph I then develop three supporting ideas. I continue the same steps until I get to the conclusion where I write the main point of the essay which is almost a similar paragraph that links back to the introduction. This process really helps me organize my ideas and when I was taking English 100, I used it
An important discourse community that was a part of my life was my volleyball team during my four years of high school. I started playing my first year going into high school and continued until I graduated. Until now I wasn’t even aware that would even be considered a discourse community, but it fits all of the qualifications of Swales’ definition of a discourse community. Goals
“What is a discourse approach?” de Ron Scollon y Suzanne Wong Scollon. In this lecture it is seen how the authors want to make every aspect of the subject clear, so the chapter starts with an understandable example. They focus on how discourse approach and language ambiguity can affect someone who talks with a person of another culture and language.
Fitting in. In other words “to fit in.” How can two simple words influence society and hold such weight over adolescents and even adults? Though my mind can’t understand the idea of what this phrase truly means, these words genuinely took a toll on me for a period of time during my semester here at Stony. If someone asked me what fitting in meant two years ago, I would have responded stating that “in order to “fit in,” you must have a lot of friends, do things you might not be comfortable with in order to please someone or a group, be skinny, wear make-up, wearing expensive clothing so that you won’t be considered a bump, etc.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
Thank you for taking the time to mentor me as both a lacrosse player and coach. During my High School playing career, you inspired me to be the best player that I could be. You taught me that there is no right or wrong way to play the game, there was only a right or wrong effort to it. At one of my first practices after not being able to pass very well on the run I asked you what I was doing wrong in my throwing motion. You responded with “Nothing.
