On August 18 1920, the youngest man in the Tennessee General Assembly, nervously stood up with a letter in his hand to vote yay or nay on the 19th Amendment. Harry Burns who was a staunch anti-suffragist, received a reprimanding letter from his mother beguiling him to vote in favor for female voting rights. Burns had an honest change of heart and realized that women deserved voting rights, gave his support for female equality, giving the 19th Amendment the thirty-six states it needed to become law. The hard work of suffragist activism finally came to fruition. Nearly one hundred years later, Feminism no longer fights misogyny, but focuses on false statistics, frivolous matters, and misandry. Domestic violence and abuse of women are rampant. According to the website, Domesticviolencestatistics.org, “Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women, more than car accidents, muggings, and rape combined.” This statistic is horrifying. Alanna Vagianos makes a scary observation in her article “30 Shocking Domestic Violence Statistics” that, “the number of soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan between 2001-2012 is 6,488, the number of women deaths due to domestic violence during that time 11,766.” Vianganos statement is a sobering reminder of the abuse that women still face today. Sadly, domestic abuse is not properly handled. Because women shelters are usually underfunded and overcrowded abused women never get the help they truly need. To be fair, feminist try to address this atrocity. Feminist absolutely refuses to address the deplorable way women are treated in Islamic nations. If there was ever something that oppresses women, it is Islam. Mohammed, the founder of Islam, married a seven-year-old girl; taught that husbands have the right to beat their wives; he also taught that hell is filled with mostly women, because they are the more sinful gender. This is only a small taste of misogyny from Islam, Sweden a country with a dramatic increase in Muslims in recent years, also has a dramatic increase in sexual abuse and rape. John -Pierre Maeli states in his article, “Which Country has the Highest Rape Rate in the World” that, “One out of four women are raped…with Muslims represented 77% of the rape cases… paralleling the major increase in Muslim immigration.” Middle Eastern countries, who are predominately Islamic in belief, has some of the highest sexual abuse statistics in the world. Sadly, the men who sexually assault women in Middle Eastern countries are never punished; in fact, most the time the women who report it are the ones put to death. Where is the outcry from those who supposedly support women equality? Where are the mighty defenders of female liberation?
