Call of the Wild is a book about a sled pulling dog named Buck, Buck wasn’t always pulling sleds though. He used to be a domesticated dog living under the roof of a rich Judge, but all of that changed when he was captured and sold to two men who were crossing the Yukon territory. Through many courses of events, Buck became wild, hence the name of the book. This book takes place in the Yukon territory which was freezing and conditions were very rough, by the end of the story Buck had changed because of the problems he faced.
Buck had to get into a fight. He had to kill another dog; his world had become much harsher. Buck being pulled into the harsh world by being kidnapped and then having to fight in it shows how harsh his world has
(London 107). Buck’s perseverance helped him survive in order to meet his goal of roaming free. After Buck finally meets his goal he is able to understand what life truly is about, happiness. Even if Buck’s goals changed throughout the story his final goal was where he least expected it to which allowed him to take all of the things he learned throughout his experiences and he was able to apply them to his ultimate goal. Overall, even through tough times and hardships Buck was able to prove that to pursue a goal, you have to work for it even if you didn't know that goal
The difference in climates and environment creates different obstacles and things that have to be learned in order to survive in the wild(Napierkowski). Besides just the setting he also had to face the wild. A theme of the story is civilization vs. the wild. His life was changed over a period of time. The title itself says “The Call of the Wild”.
In Call of The Wild, Buck, the main character, is forced to push through treacherous conditions and dangerous situations to achieve his goals, showing his undying perseverance. Buck is able to persevere through everything due to his extreme want to be great at everything he does, no matter the activity. He never gives up, even through tough circumstances, and this results in his pulling a ton with his own strength, and leading his team through the perilous slopes of the Yukon. “He was beaten (he knew that); but he was not broken,” (Chapter 1, Paragraph 40).
He learned from his bad experiences. Buck then met spitz who Buck didn't like at all because he was rude and mean and hurt buck. So did my sisters they met the drunk side of their dad in which they didn't like because he beat them. Overall, Buck went through a lot he nearly died and then the one he loved
The first trait that Buck shows in the novel is that he is a quick learner. In the novel, it says “Wot I say? The dog-driver cried to Perrault. Dat Buck sure learn queek as anyt’ing” (London 19).
Buck had to step up and fight the previous leader. He beat a massive problem and showed his power towards being the alpha. During the fight, he shows his ancient ancestry related to wolves. One other time he had to fight Indians to save his owner. Once,,seeing his best owner dead, he reacts extremely fast.

In the novel of the Call of the Wild, Buck tried to adapt to his new and difficult life. He was forced to help the men find gold; he experienced a big transformation in him. At the end, he transformed into a new and different dog. Buck went through physical, mental and environmental changes. An analysis through an eco-critical lens, narrowing it down to wilderness, the paper attempts to explore the portrayal of wilderness and the influence of wilderness on the lives of both the human and non- human beings in the novel. Buck, uprooted from a comfortable civilized life of the sun kissed Californian estate struggles as a sled dog in the Canadian wilderness. The wilderness is an uncaring cruel world where only the strong live.

From domesticated and tamed to wild and primitive, the transformation of Buck from beginning to end is a result of nature and nurture combined. Nature, his genetic makeup, proves to be the most dominant in his development of becoming a free creature of the wilderness.
