Authority rule is when the chairperson, manager, or leader makes a decision for the team (Bien, 2014). When we think of an example of authority rule within a racing team one of the first examples that come to mind is when the owner decides to fire a member of the team. For example, firing the driver, firing the pit crew chief, etc. These are all decisions that can solely be made by the owner of the team as a pit crew chief cannot fire a driver, and vice versa. Minority rule is typically when there are a few people that are able to convince the entire team into making a decision that they agree with (Bien, 2014). An example of this could be the pit crew chief and the owner coming up with an idea of switching the tires that they typically use. Even though there are many other members of the team if those two think it is a good idea then there is a good chance everyone else will agree as well. Majority rule is when there is a vote about a decision at hand and there is over 50% in favor of one option over the other. One example of majority rule could be a pit crew chief desiring to fire one of the members but …show more content…
Consensus is when discussions lead to one option being favored by most of the team members (Bien, 2014). There are many examples of teams changing the colors of their cars from one season to the next. One example of a consensus decision could be something as simple as what color to paint the car. If the racing team discusses the options and everyone is excited about blue then there is a good chance that there will be a consensus in favor of blue. Finally, we have decisions by unanimity. Unanimity is when every single person on the team agrees on the decision being made. As cliché as it is one example of a decision by unanimity could simply be do we want to try to win the championship this year? It is a good way to ensure that everyone is on the same page and wants the same thing from the
