David’s shadow growing closer to Makani, she ran in fear for her life. When she finally hid behind a large oak tree, she couldn’t help but wonder about Ollie: was he okay? Was he still alive? David plunged his knife into her chest, sanguine stains splattering on the crunchy leaves beneath Alex’s corpse. What kind of monster would have the ability to kill someone? To stab someone to their death? To do it serially? Makani’s mind could not wrap around these thoughts- it seemed like the type of thing that would only happen in horror movies, not in the small town of Osborne, Nebraska. Makani’s utmost concern now was to make it out alive. She no longer could think of the ones she loved, rather, she needed to survive this battle. Going against the original idea, Makani scurried through the woods and kept her eyes on the glowing tunnel at the end of the field: her exit to tranquility. Momentarily, she swerved her head behind her to notice that David settled on Ollie. Before she could do anything, David’s hand swiftly tore repeatedly through Ollie’s skin.
