Gun fire, suicide bombers, and torture. To most people, these horrible possibilities will always be a fear, but never a reality. As kids, we never think much about these things... until they’re right on our door steps. Even then, it seems unreal- every death, or explosion a tragedy. But, in some places gunfire is just background music to life. When you think of a war zone, you probably think of army men, gunfire, and chaos. But there are also families living through these tragedies, children. Kids just like you who like to play with their friends, and watch TV. But this isn’t always an option. We can’t even imagine what this life would be like until it happens upon us. Who is this girl? She is Malala, and her story has shown the world what living in a war torn country is really like. Malala, only eleven at the time, faced many tragedies. Growing up in the peaceful valley of Swat, Pakistan, Malala never thought her life would end up as upside down as it had become. Slowly but surely, a religious activist group was taking over Pakistan. They were called the Taliban, and they believed it to be unholy for girls to go to school. Every day there was more of them. Every day girls had fewer rights. With the help of her supportive family, Malala finds the courage to speak out against the Taliban, and learns the meaning of hope, kindness, and standing up for what she believes in. When Malala starts receiving death threats, she must make one of the biggest decisions of her life- will she fight for her beliefs, or back down to the Taliban in order to save her life?
