In the final stage of his life, Malcolm X makes the Hajj to Mecca and continues to travel around the Middle East, which allows him to gain a greater understanding of how white and black people interact in places around the world other than America, thus shifting his original beliefs. During this period of his life, Malcolm X realizes that not all white people should be held responsible for the maltreatment of black people, and he explains this new belief sufficiently by using firsthand evidence and figurative language. This experience contributes to his new belief that only some white people deserve to receive blame for affecting the lives of black people. He recognizes that other white people are doing their job as citizens by treating black people as equals. Although Malcolm X realizes that not every white person in the world should be blamed for impacting black people, he recognizes that the place where most white people disrespect black people is America. X describes why there is a racial equality problem in America to people who live in the Middle East by using a metaphor: “I was not surprised when violence happened in any of America’s ghettos where black men had been living packed like animals and treated like lepers” (356). He emphasizes that because of the way that black people are forced to live in America, they are isolated from other Americans.
