Malcolm X was a black nationalist leader, who was very passionate in leading the fight against discrimination. His troubled childhood, along with the time period he grew up in, gave him the experience of dealing with racism and fabricated him into the great activist he was. In his speech “The Ballot or the Bullet” Malcolm preaches about how black people were suffering from social, economic, and political oppression at the hands of white people and how he wants black people to break from this oppression. Throughout the speech he conveys that fact that all people should be equal no matter what and how he is furious with the actions of white people. He says, “I‘m one of the 22 million black victims of the Democrats. One of the 22 million black victims of the Republicans and one of the 22 million black victims of Americanism.” He then goes on to say, “In Washington, D.C., in the House of Representatives there are 257 who are Democrats. Only 177 are Republican. In the Senate there are 67 Democrats. Only 33 are Republicans.” He gets this point across to show that there is much more control and power for the white man in the government. He had many speeches that expressed how black people need to fight for equality and demonstrated the great lengths to which human beings will go to secure their freedom.
