Self-defense is the act of defending ones person when physically attacked, as by countering blows or overcoming an assailant. Peace is an agreement or treaty between warring or antagonistic nations, groups, etc., to end hostilities and abstain from further fighting or antagonism. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, The BBP, and lastly Rob Williams all wanted peace and equality but self-defense was their struggle.
The BPPs known as the Black Panther Party, was formed in 1966. It was the largest black revolutionary organization that has ever been existed for self-defense. The BPPs decided that it was not only time to get their freedom but it was time to fight. They wanted the police brutality to stop so they followed their second amendment and bare arms. The patrolling of the police began. If they seen that an officer was to pull a black man over and search him, the Panthers would get out of the car and go towards the scene and stood watching with their guns out and easy to be noticed. The police officer questioned them with the law but what the law enforcement also known as “pigs” did not know was that the Panthers new their rights and quoted each every law and court ruling relevant to their situation. They showed law enforcement and the people that would surround the seen that they didn’t want blood or a shoot-out but only to use their guns in self-defense if necessary. He wanted to be clear to the people that nonviolence is not a method of cowardice but being nonviolent was a resister that was just as opposed to the evil that he is standing against as the violent resister that he resists without violence. King wanted to gain and become friends with the white community and their opponents instead of humiliating the white community and defeating them. He wanted to attack the system that the white people just happened to be in. King believed that the struggle was not with the white people but it was more between justice and injustice, the forces of light and darkness. “If there is a victory it will not be a victory merely for fifty thousand Negroes, but it will be a victory for justice, a victory for good will, a victory for democracy.” Nonviolent resistance is an internal matter that not only avoids external violence but also external physical violence and internal violence of spirit.
