Malvolio Act 5

180 Words1 Pages
In this excerpt from Act 5, Feste repeats the quote about greatness from earlier in the play. The fool uses this quote primarily to show Malvolio that he was in on the prank. He also uses it to rub Malvolio’s lack of greatness in his face. In addition to being important to the surface level understanding of the scene, the quote also illuminates one of the main messages of the play: fate is more important than human actions. The last sentence of the excerpt reiterates this message. In this last sentence, time is personified. This gives the sentence the overall meaning that fate will make things right in the end. Olivia talked about fate at the end of Scene 5 of Act 1 when she discussed how she should let fate decide if she should be with Cesario.
