Mamre Association Inc. is an organization for supporting families with children that have a disability. Mamre was founded in 1982 and is based in Brisbane, Australia. There was a discussion in the departmental representative about the possibility of accessing funding to establish a project that might contribute to the ‘support of families who have a member with a disability’. The Mamre representatives were asked to talk about their decision. Mamre’s mission is a community organisation to help envision, plan and build rich, meaningful, inclusive and loving lives for their family members with a disability. Mamre’s vision is to make sure that everyone in the community upholds the worth of everyone in the society. One of Mamre’s projects is inviting people with disabilities and their family members to a presentation about preparing for National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which will begin in Queensland on July 2016. ‘National Disability Insurance Scheme – is a new way of providing individualised support for people with permanent or significant disability and their families’. (http://www.ndis.gov.au/#main-navigation) You have to be under the age of 65 when you first access the NDIS, you have to have a permanent and significant disability that affects your daily activities, you need to be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Protected Special Category Visa.
