#1 - Satisfaction with oneself doesn’t need to rely on the expectations of society. - In this world of people there are few people who live without heads. Those who live without heads are looked upon as inferior or as peasants. Mr. Phelps who is going on a date with a girl feels the need to buy a head because he wants to impress his date who has a head. As Mr. Phelps is entering the head store he approaches two ladies exiting the store who appear to have just bought heads who give him dirty looks. When he enters the store he meets the shopkeeper who is very quick to dismiss Mr. Phelps when he says “I don’t have a lot of money” and gives him a questioning look when Mr. Phelps says “This is my first time buying a head”. Who’s our? What is going on in this statement? I can see that relying on society's expectations is a very popular theme but this statement is very VERY poorly worded and is incredibly vague. The literary terms book says to use words like “others” or “people” while words like “they” or “our” just don’t fit because it is worded as if it refers to someone or a group of people in particular.

#12 - The way others look at you shouldn’t impact the way you feel about yourself - Well, for starters this is a lesson as we can see with the keyword “shouldn’t”. Ignoring the fact that it’s a lesson for a few seconds, let’s talk about how I believe Mr. Phelps feels about himself and what he thinks others think of him. We can assume that Mr. Phelps is give or take 60 years old and that he’s lived his life without a head. With this in mind I believe that he has been doing just fine without it and doesn’t feel bad about being headless.
