Managed Care plans are also known as prepaid health care plans. Managed healthcare plans strive to deliver high-quality healthcare, while controlling cost. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, or ‘Obamacare’ was the expansion of Medicaid program across the states. Charles Barrilleaux and Carlisle Rainey look at why state government have opted out of the Medicaid expansion. They find that Obama’s 2012 vote share and the governor’s partisanship better explains the disapproval to Medicaid expansion, rather than measures of need, such as life expectancy or the number of people that are uninsured. Charles Barrilleaux and Carlisle Rainey find that a Republican governor is a higher percentage point more likely to oppose the expansion than Democratic governors. Whereas, the results show that the percentage uninsured in the state to have a small positive effect on the probability of opposition.
Introduction This informational interview was conducted with Dr. Pamela Aaltonen, a Homeland Security instructor at Purdue University, and active member at the Tippecanoe Board of Health. Her role here is to frame issues in the concept of Homeland security and emergency management. Dr. Aaltonen holds a key role in Homeland Security, as many disasters contain human health issues, such as mass causalities, pandemic outbreaks, and sanitary issues following natural disasters. Dr. Aaltonen’s flavor of Homeland Security differs from the work that I normally see, but as displayed during the interview, Homeland Security is a multi-disciplinary field that requires cooperation across all fields.

The Effects of Regulations on Managed Care and IDS Managed Care is a health care delivery system organized to manage cost. The legal and business imperatives of managed care pervade our national healthcare system, the regulation of managed care depends on who contributes to the plan and who bears the risk for paying for the insured services. The focus on health reform is constantly changing due to societal needs – in terms of general health, political context and financial hardships. Over the past decades, there have been various health reform efforts, each one improving access to health care. As reported by Hoffman (2009), most efforts have failed either because of “the plan’s complexity, ideological differences, weakened Presidency or decentralization of Congressional Power.” The reasons for failure demonstrate the political weight carried on by reform itself.

In recent decades, public health interventions in the humanitarian response have made gains in the equity and quality of emergency assistance. With these crisis on the rise, emergency management is more important than ever. I conclude that a lot of family members or should I say almost every one of us really don 't know what to do when this kind of disaster came to us. Although we really don 't know when would earthquake strikes, we need to at least be prepared for the things that can help us to save more lives. Just like the students in MCL, most of them don 't know anything about the plans for their safety, and according to them there 's no evacuation plan in the campus. Only the officials, committee and some of the students in the campus knows about it. And a lot of students are not aware of their earthquake drills on their campus; they said that only those people who are interested to participate will do.
