Social media is changing the way the news works, a Made in Hollywood Managing Editor explains to a Journalism class how social media is changing the news and how we need to change with it.
Michael Fleeman, the managing editor at Made in Hollywood, a website that stays up to date with the entertainment business in Hollywood, explains to Dr. Stephanie Bluestein’s Journalism 110 class how social media is making a big impact on how news is distributed, formatted, and its objectivity.
“It’s changed everything about the way in which we cover the news, distribute the news, assemble our story, monetize, determine whether or not we are a success, every single level has changed.” he said.
Fleeman explains the way the news is distributed now a days is through communities. He goes on to explain

He explains that through these years he’s seen how social media and the news have both expanded the way in which they work together. He shares how newer news outlets have a social media connected to it whether it be Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat.
With rise of social media, the news has become more visual.
“Now that video can get to you so fast and get to your mobile and you don’t have to wait for it to load.” He said. “Video is now becoming an extremely important way to tell even the most basic stories.”
Fleeman explains to the class how it’s being more common to see the news rather than just listening to it. With the rise of mobile devices, news has to be able to fit on a mobile device. He goes on to explain that watching news on the television from popular news outlets such as CNN or CBS is slowly declining because more people are choosing to hear about the news on their mobile device because it’s connivance.
Fleeman admits that even he will hear about an event that happened, and will look it up on his phone rather than wait for news outlets to report
