This is so because social cultural factors relate to the behaviors of the consumers. These behaviors may be determined by age of the population as well as religion. It would for example not make business sense to build a bacon factory in Mombasa or anywhere in North Eastern Province. A large proportion of the population in these areas professes the Muslim religion and culture. They are not known to consume bacon products. Similarly, it would be futile to set up beer factories in the Arab World. Muslim communities, who are the majority in that part of the world, are not accustomed to beer consumption. Notably, one of the greatest and most sudden social cultural changes in our times is acceptance of male circumcision, amongst the Luo community in western Kenya. According to Professor Michael Porter’s business strategy concepts, there are five main players in any industry or specific market which include;- • New entrants into an industry who cannot be avoided • Related products or substitutes which are continually developed • The customer who continually changes needs and/or preferences • The supplier of goods and services who can withhold the same or change terms of supply at will.
