The literature Nineteen Eighty-Four published by George Orwell in the year 1949 states that the ideology of the novel is a good speculative fiction in that it has proved to have resonated with the 21st century issues. It is a dystopian speculative fiction that revolves around a segregated civilisation powered by the Party and ruled by Big Brother; and immortalized figurehead. Eurasia Oceania and Eastasia are the three segments the world is divided into within this novel. Life of perpetual war, extensive surveillance by the Party thought police defines Oceania’s. The first and foremost includes the Psychological Manipulation. Within the novel the Party barrages the citizens of Oceania with mental stimuli created for the overpowering of the mind’s capacity to formulate independent thought. The subjects of the Party are constantly enforced with torrents of propaganda created to generate an illusion of an undamaged and constantly successful Party. Their behaviour is monitored through surveillance and constantly reminded through omnipresent signs stating that “Big Brother is Watching You”. This resonates with the current day due to the major underlying issue of surveillance. Within today’s communities each citizen is subjected to scrutiny through CCTVs’ and the watchful eyes of authority. Orwell has related this aspect of 1984 very cleverly to the current year of 2014. Without doubt the watchful eye of the government surveys the history of every citizen through their usage of technology. And this was foretold within 1984; however today s’ government does not demonstrate the act of surveillance so freely and instead monitors civilised movements with secrecy, making this society even more subjected to control. The dual capability to depict constant propaganda and observe the reaction of the public symbolizes the government’s abuse of technology. Instead of portraying knowledge upon our society to improve civilisation the government manipulates its access to technology by providing society with propagandas on how to live our lives. Through constant government plans, tax thresholds and voting for parties, the government slowly controls our movements. It exploits our right to ponder, due to its constant demands and provocative advertisements. Our actions and emotions are monitored, supplying the government with information on how to target their moves with better relation to society, winning our
