Arthur Miller, a playwright, wrote The Crucible, a dramatized and fictionalized play. The setting took place in Salem, Massachusetts, during the Salem Witch Trials in 1692. The play is about the witch trials, which started due to the jealousy and lust of Abigail Williams, the leader of the witchcraft trial, wanting to have John Proctor, the main protagonist, again. At the end of the play, Proctor is led to his hanging. Throughout the play, there are many events that had helped him made his decision.
“A racist system inevitably destroys and damages human beings; it brutalizes and dehumanizes them, blacks and whites alike” (Kenneth Clark). Kenneth Clark was a very important person in helping the Brown V. Board Of Education case win. Winning that case was important because a state law came into place that said separate public schools for black and white students were unconstitutional. A Raisin in the Sun shows how Clark was right; a racist system affected the way the Youngers’ lived. The Youngers’ apartment in the Southside of Chicago: in the 1950s; significantly affected the Youngers’ lives.
In the book, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Jeannette talks about her life growing up, along with the struggles and memories. In the article, “Why Losing Control Can Make You Happier” by Raj Raghunathan, his perspective is that being overly controlling can make you unhappy. I know this because the article says, “Being overly controlling of outcomes like being overly controlling of others also lowers happiness. ”(Raghunathan 2). John Proctor displayed himself as an honest hard working man, who had only one secret.

Abigail is told by John to move on but instead, Abigail starts accusing the townspeople of witchcraft, including John Proctor’s wife Elizabeth. As this hysteria begins to rise, other people such as Thomas Putnam, a rich landowner, start to also allege Salem villagers. In this play, the author illustrates the central idea that people should not allow jealousy to control their actions.

I was amazed by the fact that the play is based on a true story about The Radium Dial Girls and their contributions to history. For director Sally J. Robertson to present it to the public is a constant reminder on how important the role of women has changed in society. After watching the play, it was incredible being both entertained and educated at the same time.

The book is a fictional story narrated by a man called the “Stage Manager” who explains daily life at Grover's Corners , New Hampshire. Life in 1901 in this small New Hampshire town isn't much different than life today in towns across the world. In the first act of the book, the Scene starts off at Grover's Corners , New Hampshire, where the Stage Manager’s explains the daily life for the people living and growing up in grover's corner.

A number of girls take ill with hallucinations, comas, and seizures after some women were witnessed dancing naked in the woods. In an extremely Puritan society, failure or mishap is blamed on the devil, causing many to accuse each other of witchcraft and conspiracy against the church.

Although the novel, The Crucible took place a long time ago, the ideas and aspects of the play connect strongly to our current lives. A common theme that relates to modern America is greed. Abigail Williams, who takes part in the majority of the play definitely is the instigator of issues. All of the town 's problems somehow connect back to her. The strongest connections to me are the use of rumors, peer pressure, and wanting to gain power.
One of the several themes that Priestley has introduced to the play is ‘Time,’ and this theme not only interlinks with some others like ‘Age and Youth’ and ‘Social Responsibility,’ but also introduces a very important drama technique into the play for the audience called the dramatic irony. In Act One, Mr. Birling, as a representative of the older generation of the play and the head of the family, is talking to the others about the progress humanity is making and mentions the liner, Titanic saying it is “unsinkable, absolutely unsinkable.” The word ‘absolutely’ in this context shows just how confident in his words Mr. Birling is, without understanding that it will all change. As the play is set back in 1912, but is performed much later in 1946, after the audience knows, and finds it ironic that Mr. Birling, thinking he is an old, wise man says such nonsense, as time will show.
