In August 28 1963, A. Phillip Randolf organized the March on Washington for jobs and freedom. The March on Washington proved to be the largest political demonstration of the Civil Rights Movement and witnessed the most media coverage of any of the Civil Rights marches. More than 20 000 black and white Americans assembled in Washington, D.C., in an attempt to draw attention to the political and social challenges that Black Americans still faced. In what became one of the most critical events in the Civil Rights Movement. It consisted of prayer, song and speech from politicians and Civil Rights leaders with the aim of highlighting the demands of African Americans. King’s “I have a dream” speech marked a decisive moment in history and ideally captured the essence of the march.
