For a successful movement there must be a great deal of planning, research, and organization. The Civil Rights Movement was successful because of major movements such as the March on for Jobs and Freedom. The March on Washington took months to plan and and many people contributing to make it possible. Many people also did not like this movement but the members did it no matter who favored it and did not. The March on Washington occurred because African-Americans were treated very unfairly. A. Philip Randolph would lead the organization of the March on Washington because he had organized the last March on Washington that was then canceled. Bayard Rustin helped Randolph because he had been Randolph's longtime associate. The Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the National Association for the Advancement of colored people contributed to the organization also. John Lewis was put in charge to make sure that the movement stayed peaceful. Martin Luther King Jr. would lead the crowd in the march because he was one of the most powerful leaders for peaceful protests. Even though this was a movement for the freedom of African-Americans, they encouraged whites to march in the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. Last March on Washington President Franklin D. Roosevelt did not show any support for the previous March on Washington. President John F. Kennedy did not show any support for the second March on Washington but this did not stop supporters of the civil rights movements. Last time when they heard that Roosevelt did not support the March they canceled it but this time they would not cancel it because Kennedy did not support it.
