Mental effects on the brain
The human brain is wired for music, and studies have shown that children who do band, whether it be singing or playing an instrument, have higher IQ scores. It is also proven that these people are also better at mathematics and language. Over 83% of the people earning $150,000 or more per year participated in band. It helped them stay in school and get an education. Music is also a great stress alleviator. It gives you the chance to forget about everything and just play.
Marching band also helps people develop multitasking skills. Marching band members have to march, and play at different tempos and cadences learn to do multiple things at a time. This takes a lot of determination. We all know those people that quit when things get tough. Fortunately, kids doing band try and fail multiple times, until at last, they succeed. This teaches them to endure all the trials so that they can reap the reward. This quality is important for kids in school, as wall as adults in their career. Band also helps students meet friends and socialize. Concerts help students get over stage fright, allowing for better presentation or speeches, in school or at work. Some of my best friends I have I met in band. These two things make ideal network for advancement opportunities, which can be important to adults who are constantly paying bills. This can also help the students get better jobs. A lot of jobs you get you can get through personal connections. You also develop teamwork skills.
