Christianity, as described by the late Marcus Garvery is, “A form of religion practiced by the millions, but as misunderstood, and unreal to the majority as gravitation is to the untutored savage. We profess to live in the atmosphere of Christianity, yet our acts are as barbarous as if we never knew Christ. He taught us to love, yet we hate; to forgive, yet we revenge; to be merciful, yet we condemn and punish, and still we are Christians. If hell is what we are taught it is, then there will be more Christians there than days in all creation. He also founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League, along with the Black Star Line, a shipping and passenger line which encouraged the return of the African Diaspora to their originally inhabited lands. More important than all of his achievements, Garvey like myself, held the idea of being Christ-Like close to his heart and it was apparent in his actions and the risks he took for his followers. This made him a very respected and fearless leader. This style of leadership is primarily focused on, “staying afloat.” These types of leaders implement the use of disciplinary action and incentives to keep their followers on the right track. They motivate their subordinated with the use of rewards, and they often don’t pay too much attention to the strategic guidance, instead they usually only care to ensure that things run smoothly on a day to day basis (Ingram, 2016). Having great transactional leaders, paired with Garvey’s exceptional transformation leadership style, most likely aided to bringing balance to the organization’s leadership approach. In relation to history, Garvey was phenomenal. Through the acquisition of risk capital, Garvey aimed to counteract and abolish capitalistic inequality that was present due to capitalistic arrangements of economic organization. He gave African-Americans a sense of unity, and also gave those of all colors hope that they could one day live better by doing better for themselves and those around them.
