The main goals of the Progressive Era was to eliminate problems caused by industrialization, urbanization, immigration, and corruption in the government. Marcus Garvey was a reformer during the Progressive Era. He was one of the most influential black nationalist and Pan-Africanist leaders in the 20th century. Marcus Garvey established the Universal Negro Improvement Association. The Black Star line was a shipping line incorporated by Marcus Garvey. It represents a major symbol of Marcus Garvey’s followers and African Americans in search of a way to get back to their home lands. Marcus Garvey was arrested for mail fraud and went to prison.
