A Compare and Contrast Of Margaret Atwood's Poetry 'Love' is a term that is abused at least Margaret Atwood feels that way. In her poem Variations on the Word Love it says, " This is a word we use to plug holes with..." From this line you get the allusion that love is meaningless. People just use the word as a replacement for all the wrong. For example, to avoid a fight or argument in a relationship the other will say I love you, with no meaning behind it. 'Love' is used as a comfort word. This can be seen in the lines' "We insert it also in the one empty space on the printed form that comes with no instructions." When a person hears the word love comfort, happiness, and a wave of warm emotions feel them. She is right love does not come with instructions, because love is different person-to-person. My definition of love will be thirty times different than yours. The definition of love is to feel a lover's passion, devotion, or tenderness for. This is not a true definition because it does not tell of the flip side of the 'fluffy' love. There is a part of love that burns like fire. There are times when you hate the one you love, but you still love them. She wants to be able to help them overcome the fears they must face in their dreams. she wants her lover to know that they can always count on her and she will never abandon them in their time of need. “ I would like to be the air that inhabits you for a moment only.
