Margaret Atwood The Female Body Analysis

251 Words2 Pages
Both authors write about the North American ideal of the female body and what it 's purpose is within that society. Atwood describes the female body as “...made of transparent plastic that lights up when you plug it in” (Atwood 211). This description gives light to just how unrealistic and fake the ideal for female body is. Logic follows that because most females are made of flesh, bone, fat and other organic materials, it is therefore impossible for anyone of them to reach what is the ideal of being female. Similarly, Lau writes “I wanted to trick my body back into childhood by starving it...” (Lau 158), as she clung to the idea that youth is the ideal state for a woman 's body even after puberty. Lau longed to be petite again. Constant
