Margaret Collen Hoover is self-published American author with over twenty-two published novels. Before she became a beloved author, she was a social worker for WIC and helped women and children with nutrition (Cadden). She is widely known as Collen Hoover in the book community. Hoover is originally from Texas and still resides there with her husband and three children. She first started publishing novels back in 2012 through a sharing service called amazon. After making her review her video received millions of views. Hoover then started her own personal TikTok account and was receiving a lot of positive comments about her novels. Ultimately that one video helped push her career in a favorable direction. Her novels started to skyrocket on charts and eventually she had ten novels on the New York Times Bestseller list. However, TikTok did not make her career, it only aided her in becoming a book icon (Merry).
TikTok has proven to be an immensely powerful source by providing new artists and authors with a chance to become mainstream. It really helped Hoover with the marketing aspect of her brand. According to the Washington Post “Generations of have been taught that public displays of weeping are the height of embarrassment” (Merry). Hoover has taught her audience that showing emotions is not something to be embarrassed about. This tactic of writing has helped her audience connect with Hoover on a personal level. Her novels repeatedly have left readers in tears, and her novels truly leave a big impression
